The Government has introduced a ‘guidance guarantee’ that all individuals with a defined contribution pension scheme will be offered free and impartial guidance at the point of retirement. This:

  • covers a range of options to help you make sound decisions and take informed action, whether that’s seeking further advice or purchasing a product;
  • tells you about the different types of pension and what you can do with your defined contribution pension pot - what’s tax free and what’s not; and
  • is offered face to face by Citizens Advice or by phone from The Pensions Advisory Service.

The LSF is a defined benefit pension scheme so PensionWise will not directly advise you on the options under the Fund (unless you have paid Additional Voluntary Contributions). However, it would be worth mentioning that you have this entitlement should you discuss other defined contribution benefits with PensionWise.
