Mike Hampton

Mike is a Law graduate from Cambridge University and a Fellow of the Pensions Management Institute.

Having been employed in a number of roles with financial services company Friends Provident (now Friends Life, part of the Aviva Group), he has over 25 years’ pensions experience from the product provider side as Technical Director, the Trustee side as Chairman of the Friends Provident Defined Benefit Pension Scheme and the sponsor side as Group HR Director.

During this time, he chaired the Association of British Insurers Pensions Legislation Panel and was a member of the Association’s Pensions Committee where he was the Association’s representative on a number of government-sponsored industry working groups. He has also been an adviser for OPAS, the predecessor of The Pensions Advisory Service (TPAS).

Mike left Friends in 2008 to establish his own consultancy providing independent trustee services to a small number of defined benefit
pension schemes with assets under management ranging from £500 million to £1.5 billion. Mike also operates under the Pi brand as an Associate, along with a number of other pension professionals.
